The holidays are behind us, so if you were lucky enough to receive a new computer, these tips are for you. Well, if you didn’t receive one recently but you own a somewhat new device, you also want to pay attention because I will show you two simple tricks to keep your device protected and to keep it clean to continue to enjoy top performance.

Every new computer comes with some sort of antivirus, which is a trial version most of the time, and then the company will try to push for you to buy it. As an I.T. professional, I can confirm that there are several programs free of charge that can keep your computer safe. Remember that having a good antivirus is a must, since hackers are always trying to improve their skills and they get clever in making their schemes look like legitimate requests.

Protection

Download “Avast,” a 100% free antivirus, which updates automatically and protects your browsing. Get it from the website avast.com.

-Blocks viruses and malware

-Has a firewall Secures your password

-Blocks spam email

-Avoids fake website

-Prevents your webcam from remote activation

Maintenance

Download “CCleaner Free.” This is another free tool that runs in the background while cleaning your computer. This program makes your computer faster by deleting all the unneeded data like cookies and files left behind when browsing or when partially uninstalling software. This software also cleans your computer's registry while optimizing your computer, and it works with all the different brand browsers as a plugin.

-Automatic schedule cleaning

-Safe browsing privacy protection

-Unneeded file deletion

I can assure you that by having just these two programs installed, your computer will be optimized and safe. Beyond being free, these programs have the benefit of running automatically making it easy for the user to enjoy a fast computer.
